about
Event focus
International relocation is rarely just a tax exercise. Families, entrepreneurs and internationally mobile clients often focus on visas, tax residency and structuring, while overlooking practical, personal and operational issues that can determine whether a move ultimately succeeds or becomes a “regrettable relocation”.
The panel will explore the broader ecosystem of relocation advice, including cross-border coordination between advisors, family governance and family dynamics, cultural integration, lifestyle considerations and contingency planning when the destination jurisdiction becomes untenable, perhaps due to geopolitical risk. Using practical examples and lived experiences from multiple jurisdictions, the panel will discuss the questions clients often fail to ask and the issues advisors most commonly see arise after the move has already happened – to include scenarios where clients wish or need to reverse their plans to move.
Why attend?
Attendees will gain practical insights into how advisors can better prepare internationally mobile clients before relocation occurs. The session will explore both technical and non-technical considerations that frequently impact the long-term success of a move.
Key takeaways include:
- Developing a broader relocation planning checklist beyond tax
- Identifying common oversights and “regrettable relocation” scenarios
- Understanding the importance of coordinated, multi-disciplinary advice
- Discussing contingency and emergency planning for globally mobile families
- Risk management and what to do when operational considerations and contingency plans are not addressed
- Exploring cultural, lifestyle and governance factors that can affect relocation outcomes
This session will be particularly relevant for private client advisers, trustees, tax professionals, lawyers and family office professionals working with internationally mobile individuals and families.
